SUMMER & WINTER INTENSIVES

How can I audition for a program?

You can audition in two ways:

• Attend a live audition in select cities

• Submit a video audition

How do I register to an audition?

What will be required in the audition?

If you attend an in-person audition you will typically take a Nique-based 90 minute contemporary ballet class taught by one of our instructors. 

If you submit your audition by video, please read the requirement in our audition page.

 

Is previous dance experience required?

Yes, dancers should have prior training. While we don’t specify a minimum level or amount of training years, a strong classical technique foundation is required.

Additionally, for Pre-Professional programs, strong pointe work is required for female-identifying dancers.

What is the required attire for auditions?

  • Any color sleeveless leotard or fitted t-shirt.

  • Black fitted dancer shorts, skin toned tights or black cut out tights.

  • Skin toned ballet shoes. 

  • No activewear, ballet skirts, crop tops, pink tights, baggy or jogger shorts.

  • Please ensure hair is secured away from the face

  • Pointe shoes: skin tone is preferred.

  • Warmers, baggy pants, large t-shirts and sweatshirts are only allowed at the beginning of class and should be removed after plies at the barre.

  • Long nails and jewelry are discouraged

 

Do I need to be on pointe to audition?

Pointe is not a requirement for Complexions Summer or Winter programs. We offer Contemporary Pointe Class in all programs, and we also offer an alternative track with different genre master classes for those dancers who are not on pointe or chose not to be part of the Pointe track. If you would like to be considered for the Pointe track, please add pointe work in your audition video.

To attend a Pre-professional program, strong pointe work is required for female-identifying dancers.

What are the age requirements for summer and winter programs?

Students must be between 13 and 26 years old.

 

When will I be notified of my audition results?

Please allow up to 15 days after you submit your application video or attend an in-person audition to receive your results via email.

 

Is pointe work required for auditions?

For Summer and Winter Intensives: No, pointe is not mandatory. While we offer Contemporary Pointe classes, dancers can choose an alternative track featuring different master classes in various dance styles.

For Pre-Professional programs: Yes, pointe work is mandatory for female identifying dancers.

 

If I am accepted, am I required to I attend the full program?

Yes, full participation is required. Throughout the program, dancers prepare for an informal performance at the end. Arriving late, leaving early, or missing days can disrupt the program’s flow.

How are dancers placed?

Scholarships & Financial Aid

Scholarships are available only by merit-based invitations offered by our faculty members in events and auditions. Financial Aid is not available.

 

What should students bring to class each day?

Dance attire, water bottle, lunch and snacks. Please avoid bringing valuables to the studio.

 

Can parents observe classes?

No. Dancers parents, teachers or guests are not allowed to watch class. All are welcome to the informal student showing at the end of each summer intensive.

 

What happens if a student is late to class?

We have a strict punctuality policy. If you are 1-10 minutes late to class you can sit and watch class. If you are more than 10 minutes late you can wait outside until your next class.

 

How will I receive my class schedule?

You will receive a full schedule one week prior to your intensive by email.

 

How do students get to and from the studio?

Depending on the program. If you attend LA or NYC program and decide to be in housing with us, you will be escorted by chaperones between studios and housing facilities. In other programs where there is no housing option, or if you chose not to house with us, each dancer is responsible for their own transportation.

 

What should I pack for the program?

A list of suggestions will be included in your information package.

Are tickets required for the final performance?

Yes. Each program has its own requirements, prices and availability. Information will be provided in the information package.

 

What activities are available outside of class?

In Los Angeles and New York, some activities will be organized by our housing staff and provided as optional in the information package and/or during orientation. For housing dancers, some activities will be mandatory. For non-housing dancers, you are welcome to join our activities.

 

What are the program dates?

The dates vary depending on the program you choose. Please refer to our Educational Programs tab to look for specific program dates.

 

When should students plan their travel?

Students should plan to arrive a day before the program begins and stay through the final performance. 

 

How are dancers placed in their levels?

Placement is carefully decided considering a balance between level and age.

 

What is the policy if a student gets sick or injured?

Please note we do not issue refunds under any circumstance. Credit certificates valid for one-year can be issued on a case-to-case basis. Please email info@complexionscademy.com if your dancer becomes ill or injured before a program starts.

International Students

We welcome international students!  Please consider extra information prior to enrolling.

 

AUDITION: If you  live outside of the United States submit your audition by video.

TRAVEL VISAS: We do not offer student visas. Please reach out to us by email if you have any questions.

TRAVEL: You are responsible for all travel arrangements. No transportation between the airport and housing is provided. If you are a minor, contact the airline to confirm their rules regarding minors flying independently, prior to purchasing a ticket.

HEALTH INSURANCE: Before arriving, you must purchase a health insurance that covers you in the USA for the duration of your stay. In the USA, some insurance companies may require the student to pay costs upfront and then submit the receipts for reimbursement. Not all doctors accept insurance from companies outside the United States. We suggest you purchase coverage from one of the many companies that provide international travel or short-term health insurance.

LANGUAGE: We provide support by email in English, Spanish and Italian, but all our classes are taught in English, and all required paperwork is also in English. We encourage dancers to have at least an intermediate level of English language to ensure a better experience.
